LimeWire Basic - Free P2P File Sharing Client

The software also provides support for BitTorrent. For a long time BitTorrent support in LimeWire was a bit basic and left users wanting for more. In the latest version of LimeWire the team has addressed the needs of the user by ripping BitTorrent apart, overhauling it and then re-implementing it into LimeWire. The end result is that you can download BitTorrent files at considerably faster speeds than in the past.
LimeWire comes in three different flavors: LimeWire Basic, LimeWire Pro and LimeWire Extended Pro. The difference between the three versions is the price and the functionality they provide. The Basic version comes at absolutely no charge for you whatsoever, but this does not mean it will not cost you. No charge also means no full-featured LimeWire product. For picking this version you will have to do without: optimized search results, turbo-charged downloads, connections to more sources, software updates and tech support.
At least LimeWire Basic does not come with some annoying toolbar or bundled with adware. The development team behind the software has made it quite clear that the users’ security ranks high on their list of priorities. Consequently no LimeWire version, be it the free Basic version or the top of the line Extended Pro version, will come bundled with adware, spyware or viruses.
Speaking of security, LimeWire can help you fend of nasty computer viruses. The way it does this is by identifying viruses in the search results and preventing you from downloading infected files.
A great deal of emphasis is put on the nature of the files you download. LimeWire encourages all its users not to download illegal or copyright infringing files. In fact, LimeWire goes a bit overboard in its drive for legal downloads. When you install the software you are asked if you are aware of the implications of illegal file sharing and you are asked to confirm that you will not use LimeWire to infringe copyright. And it goes further still: any downloaded file that has no license triggers a warning (you are asked to stop or continue at your discretion).
LimeWire provides support for Gmail, Jabber, LiveJournal and Facebook. This means you can sign in using your Facebook credentials and share files with your Facebook friends that use LimeWire just like you do.
